Brij Mohan
Dr. Brij Mohan dedicated 34 years of his professional career to the LSU School of Social Work. His dedication and unmatched productivity brought international recognition and visibility to both the School of Social Work and the university.
He is a truly gifted teacher and his students adore him. His peers also regard him as such. He was recognized by his peers in 1999 with the Distinguished LSU Faculty Award.
He also received the National Association of Social Workers Louisiana Presidential Award for Service in 2008.
Serving as Dean of the LSU School of Social Work from 1981 - 1986 Dr. Mohan transformed a local vocational unit into an internationally reputed professional School. He led the charge to have the School incorporated into the Graduate School, was the first full graduate faculty member in the School, and is the founding director of the social work doctoral program.
His leadership of the doctoral program included curriculum development, teaching, and direction of nine dissertations (of the program’s 23 doctoral graduates).
After his tenure as Dean, Dr. Mohan returned to teaching, research, and service. His research areas encompass social policy, social justice, oppression and freedom, human diversity, and international and comparative social welfare.
Dr. Mohan is known as an extraordinarily talented writer. He has written 15 books and over 300 papers. His plans for retirement include editing two journals and completing several books.
The Board of Supervisors recognized his extraordinary service to the School naming him Dean Emeritus at their January 2010 meeting.
