James H. Akin, MSW, ACSW (Florida Chapter)

James H. Akin, MSW, ACSW is the former Executive Director of the NASW Florida Chapter, located in Tallahassee, FL (1996 - 2022).  His responsibilities included: planning, directing, and coordinating programs and activities of the Florida Chapter; serving as staff for the Board of Directors; creating membership recruitment plans; communicating to the membership and general public through reports, newsletters and mailings; and generating income and educational training opportunities.  Prior to joining NASW-FL, he served as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Chapter, Director of Admissions and Student Resources at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, and as Director of Institutional Development at the University of Arkansas.  In this position, he was instrumental in establishing special events, a donor communication system, donor clubs and endowed scholarship programs.    

Mr. Akin has presented more than 20 workshops at National NASW Conferences and state meetings.  Workshop topics include: Marketing Your Social Work Career, Healthcare Reform, Fundraising, and College Survival Skills for Students.  Mr. Akin serves on the CSWE National Nominating Committee.  He has also served as the Chair of the Council of NASW Chapter Executive Directors, and as a Board Member of the Missouri and Arkansas Chapter NASW.  Mr. Akin has been an active NASW member since 1975.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas and a Masters in Social Work from Little Rock, Arkansas.
