The NASW Foundation is very pleased to extend congratulations to Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman on her nomination by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as Deputy U.S. Secretary of State. Originally a social worker, she is a professor and diplomat who served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 2011 to 2015.
Ambassador Sherman was part of the team that led to successful negotiations of the Iran nuclear deal during the Obama Administration. She also served as Counselor of the U.S. Department of State from 1997 to 2001, and Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs from 1993 to 1996.
Ambassador Sherman is a member of the NASW Social Work Pioneers®. She received the Foundation's International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award in 2018. She earned her MSW Degree from the University of Baltimore and was born in Baltimore.
